New Date for Minimum Wage Laws

Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar has yet again postponed the implementation of the new minimum wage laws, in light of the public's reaction and stakeholders' views towards the changes.

The new minimum wage, gazetted in April 2022, was initially extended to Jan 1 2023 from May 2022. Among changes were the implementation of a minimum wage of RM1,500 for companies with employees of less than 5.

However, all employers whose activities fall within the Malaysia Standard Classification of Occupation and with 5 or more employees will still have to continue paying RM1,500 minimum wage.
